Celebrate Asia at Texas Culinary Academy’s Fourth Annual Asia Food Fest
AUSTIN, Texas (Aug. 19, 2009) – In celebration of Asian cuisine, Texas Culinary Academy (TCA) is partnering with the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce (TACC) to host the fourth annual Asia Food Fest Sept. 11-12. This two-day event is held at TCA, where students and guests have the chance to experience flavors of the east.
The festival offers attendees an opportunity to enjoy Asian cooking demonstrations, attend hands-on classes, explore TCA’s Asian marketplace, witness Iron Chef-style competitions and gain knowledge about the Le Cordon Bleu culinary programs at TCA. Expert chefs from Thailand, India and China will be present at the event to provide personal insight into Asian cooking.
“Our Le Cordon Bleu education builds a strong foundation of skills and an understanding of the classic French techniques, which are essential for a rewarding culinary career around the world,” says TCA Chef Kevin Quinn. “We are proud to be a part of an event that celebrates the incredibly rich and diverse worlds of Asian cuisine.”
Friday Sept. 11
TCA hosts a “Tour of Asia” grand tasting from 6-9 p.m. that features Asian cuisine provided by TCA’s Ventana student-run restaurant and local Asian restaurants. Entrance to this event is $35 per person (excluding alcohol).
Saturday Sept. 12
Hands-on Asian cooking classes for both adults and children are available from
10 a.m.–2 p.m. Adult classes are $15 each, and children’s classes cost $10 each.
Demonstration classes are available from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and are $10 per person.
TCA’s demonstration kitchen hosts free Asian cooking seminars presented by TCA chefs. Demonstrations take place at 12 and 1:30 p.m.
Learn about different Sakes by attending a Sake tasting seminar hosted by Ventana restaurant. The seminar takes place from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. for a cost of $10 per person.
Chefs go head-to-head in an “Iron Chef Competition” at TCA. Contenders are judged by local food experts, media representatives and central Texas celebrity chefs. Round one of the competition takes place at 11 a.m. with the finals at 2 p.m.
The event is open to the public; however, reservations are required for various classes and seminars.
