Living and Studying in Sacramento
Sacramento, the capital of California, is a great place for students who are living and studying in that area. Sacramento isn’t quite as busy as Los Angeles, but this is a welcomed change from the crazy, fast paced lifestyle of LA. There are countless things to do in Sacramento during your time there, and the following article can give you some good tips on fun activities and destinations.
Watch the Sacramento Kings Play
You don’t need to be a native to Sacramento to enjoy a good basketball game. The locals are extremely into their Kings, and they have a good team, so you won’t be disappointed by the excitement and energy that go into every game.
Pay a Visit to the “Old Towns”
Areas like Folsom, Rose-ville, Elk Grove and Fair Oaks are great places to visit for a fun, historical peek into what life was like in the past. Folsom is particularly nice, with the prominent smell of aged wood and a number of great little antique shops on Sutter Street for you to explore. These old towns may be a great getaway or promote a relaxing environment for studying.
Catch a Show at Crest Theatre
This fantastic venue opened originally in 1949 with all the fanfare and celebrity presence of a California movie premiere. After closing down for a number of years, Crest Theatre re-opened in 1986, and is now host to a number of great concerts, speakers, films, comedians and much more. The interior still retains the original 1949 aesthetic, with gilded ceilings and a waterfall main drape. This is the perfect place to take a date, or just to catch a film with friends.
Go for a Train Ride Along the River
Train rides along the river are available from both the Sacramento RiverTrain and the California State Railroad Museum. The 28 mile route starts in Woodland, then meanders its way through Freemont Trestle, and finally stops in Luvdahl, before returning home. These beautiful train rides could be a great escape after a long night of studying. The train also offers Murder Mystery Dinners, which are extremely entertaining and enjoyable.
Enjoy the Outdoor Theaters
There are a number of fantastic outdoor theater offerings in Sacramento. The Fair Oaks Theater has free-roaming chickens and roosters during the summer time, which make for a hilarious and unique experience. Plays are performed under the stars, making this a particularly good destination for a romantic evening. The William A. Carroll Amphitheatre in William Land Park also hosts the Sacramento Shakespeare Festival, and a number of other wonderful shows throughout the year.
Don’t Forget to Explore on Your Own
These are just a few good ideas for things to do in Sacramento. As with any place, don’t forget to get out and do some exploring on your own. There are so many small boutiques, restaurants, parks and other attractions for you to find. Make the most of your time in Sacramento by discovering as many of the little hidden gems that it has to offer.
