Top Four Online Recipe and Cooking Forums
There is no better way to ramp up your library of recipes and find creative ideas than from other cooks and chefs on an online recipe and cooking forum. There are dozens of forums where you can browse other culinary artist’s postings and post your own thoughts and questions, each with varying levels of interaction and quality content. Of everything to be found online, here are four we consider to be the top online recipe and cooking forums.
RecipeSecrets.net
RecipeSecrets.net covers anything and everything related to recipes including drink recipes, crock pot recipes, vegetarian recipes, international recipes, and the list goes on. There are also several sections within the forum that cover cooking tips and recipe reviews to aide in the process. This forum has a decent size membership, but no so large that you are not heard.
DiscussCooking.com
With a clever design and a feminine appeal, DiscussCooking.com is a great resource for general cooking related issues, not just chef careers and not just recipes. Most of the forum posts are questions posed by members and answered by members. It must be noted that few posts go unanswered, which is a sign of a friendly forum.
ChefTalk.com
Chef Talk is for chefs and members of the food service industry. Many of the forum threads revolve around job searching, career development, and general venting. The forum design itself is basic and the membership is small, which makes it a great forum for down and dirty information. It’s also an excellent place to create online relationships with other chefs including professional chefs, professional pastry chefs, and professional caterers.
Epicurious
The well-known food magazine also has a robust online forum. So large, in fact, that there are eight different sections covering recipes, family meals, healthy cooking, wine, beer, restaurants, and more. Within the forums, each thread is user-generated, which means it’s the visitors, not the magazine staff, who control the content.
The Epicurious forum has a more advanced user interface than some other online forums. The site also includes a chat room, an option to join or start member groups, video submission, and recipe submission pages that complement the forum nicely.
Fundamentally, all forums work the same. You need to create an account and a visible user profile. Your profile can sometimes include links and even images. The forum normally tracks your activity within the site so that it can reveal your user statistics within your profile. For example, other users can see how long you’ve been a member and how many times you’ve posted. While you don’t have to use your real name or picture, you should avoid posting personal information in a forum, since all information is available for public view.
