A Food Lover’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide
Mother’s Day is always a great time to show moms how much you appreciate them. It is not, however, always the best time for great gifts. Let’s face it. Sometimes we get a little lazy in the Mother’s Day gift giving department. Sure flowers and a hotel brunch are good gifts, but not if that’s what you’ve done every year since the Walkman was popular.
If you are an Illinois cooking schools student or graduate, chances are you inherited your love of food and cooking from your mother. Show her the love this year by getting a thoughtful food related gift.
Here are some top food lover’s picks for the moms in your life this Mother’s Day.
Bento Lunch Box
If your mom is still working for a living, then help her save money and be environmentally friendly at the same time. Bento boxes are Japanese lunchboxes that are great for storing food and as conversation starters. Help mom retire that old brown bag lunch.
Cookbook Kit
Family recipes are cherished items. They help connect one generation with the next. Help mom archive all those great foods she’s cooked for the family over the years. A cookbook kit will turn all of these random recipes into a family heirloom.
Spice Collections
If the mom in your life loves to cook, then she loves spices. Good spices make good food. Get mom a collection of some of her favorites. Check your local spice and kitchen stores to see what collections they have. Does she like to cook Indian food? How about Mexican or French? The spice store will have collections of the most popular spices for different types of cuisine. If not, check online. There are hundreds of good spice gifts to be found.
Cheese of Month
We love the gift of the month clubs. And chances are that your mom loves cheese. There are so many cheeses on the market that some great ones get lost in the shuffle. The cheese of the month club will give her a chance to taste many cheeses that she never has before. Each month’s samplings are hand picked and come with notes about the cheese and its manufacturer.
Breakfast in Bed
You didn’t think that every gift idea was going to be from a store did you? Make mom’s day by presenting her with a beautiful tray of food and her favorite morning beverage. Omelets are delicious and easy to make, as are muffins and other baked goods. Try to learn some of her favorites so that the meal all the more meaningful. Use your culinary school skills to really wow here this year. You’ll both enjoy it.
