Holiday Decorations that you Just Might Want to Eat
Half the fun of the holidays is all the decorating and getting ready for the season with arts, crafts and food…wonderful food! When you can roll all this into one, you have the perfect festive combo. Christmas through the eyes of a child largely revolves around not only the presents but the candy that accompanies the season. In nearly every California culinary restaurant or bakery you can seek inspiration from the wonderful baked goods on display.
Try out some of these edible Christmas tree decorations. Hang them on the low branches and allow the children to not only easily admire their handiwork, but eat it too! It’s never too early to help them discover their creativities and passions. Perhaps this early start will lead them one day on the path to beginning their own culinary career!
Gum Drop Trees
For this fun ornament idea, you will need the following items; green gum drops, Styrofoam cones and toothpicks. It’s really as simple as it sounds! You may want to help the kids by having the gumdrops already stuck through the candies to prevent poking little fingers. Simply push the sticks in all over the cone shaped form and insert a piece of string into the top if the cone taking care to leave enough space from the top so that the ornament can hold its own weight. Hang on the tree and see how long the family can resist these great decorations.
Edible Cookie Ornaments
Take your favorite recipe for sugar cookies (or gingerbread works well too) and add a decorative twist. Buy many different color frostings and wait until cookies have cooled completely before decorating them. You may also want to buy candy melts and marshmallows since they will work well for attaching the string. Simply choose a festive colored ribbon and adhere it to the back of the cookie with the candy melts. Next, split a mini marshmallow in half and attach to the front and the back of the cookie to give it a finished look.
