6 Cocktails to Serve at Your Holiday Party

The time has come for the changing seasons, family get-togethers and the sometimes bothersome hosting of your annual holiday party. You have already taken some classes in cooking from your local culinary school in Arizona, figured out the appetizer menu and you are comfortable with the main dishes. The next thing to decide upon will be the cocktail choices. The following is a list of 6 different cocktails that will add the perfect touch to your holiday party.

FROZEN GUAVA DAIQUIRI

Ingredients:
60 ml of guava juice
45 ml of white rum
15 ml of sugar syrup
15 ml of lemon juice
1 cup of crushed ice
1 lime, wedged

Directions:
1) Put all ingredients into a blender and blend at high speed until it is of a “slushy” consistency.
2) Rub the rim of a glass with a lime wedge and coat the rim with sugar.
3) Pour the daiquiri into the glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

PLANTER’S PUNCH


Ingredients:
160 ml of dark rum
160 ml of orange juice
160 ml of pineapple juice
5 ml of lime juice
1 cup of ice
Orange slice

Directions:
1) Blend all of the juices and pour into a glass.
2) Add the rum to the top of the drink. Do not mix.
3) Garnish with the orange slice.

RED DOG MARTINI

Ingredients:
100 ml of vodka
15 ml of ruby port
2 teaspoons of lime juice
1 teaspoon of grenadine
1/8 cup of cracked ice
Directions:
1) Put cracked ice in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
2) Add the rest of the ingredients and vigorously shake.
3) Strain out into a chilled martini glass.
4) Garish with a lime wedge if desired.

MINT JULEP

Ingredients:

2 ½ ounces of bourbon
8 fresh mint leaves
1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
2 teaspoons of water
¼ cup of crushed ice
1 sprig of fresh mint

Directions:
1) Put mint leaves, water and powdered sugar in a glass. Mash ingredients to the bottom of the glass.
2) Add the crushed ice and bourbon.
3) Sprinkle additional crushed ice onto the top.
4) Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.


OLD FASHIONED

Ingredients:
2 ounces of bourbon
1 sugar cube
3 dashes of bitters
1 splash of water
Orange slice

Directions:
1) Place sugar cube in the bottom of a glass. (You may substitute one teaspoon of sugar)
2) Add bitters and a splash of water and mash to the bottom of the glass.
3) Add the ice and the bourbon. Stir.
4) Garnish with the orange slice and serve.

WHISKEY SOUR

Ingredients:
1 ½ ounce of bourbon
1 ½ ounce of lemon juice
¾ ounce of simple syrup
¼ cup of crushed ice

Directions:
1) Pour all ingredients into a glass and stir.
2) Garnish with a cherry if desired.

Entertaining during the holidays should be fun not stressful. With some libations, tasty food and great conversation your party will practically host itself. If you would like to try something different for the New Year, you may want to think about enrolling in classes in cooking at a culinary school in Arizona.
