How to Make Homemade Croutons

Salads are one of the easiest things to make for a light lunch or dinner. It’s fresh and takes very little amount of time and effort. It doesn’t matter if you’re dining solo or hosting a dinner party, salad is a key ingredient.  Simply, cut up all of the ingredients, throw them in all a bowl and serve.  What about the croutons? They give your salad the extra crunch and at times a little zing. Some would even argue that croutons are the best part of a salad. So often they are the last throw-in ingredient, and more times than not they come right out of the box. Why? Fresh homemade croutons are delicious and easy to make – here are quick steps for homemade croutons.

First you’ll need Ingredients:

  • 15 Slices of Bread (makes 4 cups)
  • ¼ Cup of Melted Butter
  • 2 Teaspoons of Garlic Salt

Easy Steps to Croutons:

Step 1: You’ll need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2:  Cut the crust off your bread, then brush a thin layer of the melted butter on to each side of the bread.

Step 3: Chop the bread slices into small cubes. If you elect to use Garlic Salt proceed to sprinkle the salt over your cubes of bread.

Step 4: Arrange your cubes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Place the sheet in the oven.
Step 5:  Let your croutons bake for approximately 15 minutes or until browned. Let cool and then store in a covered container or plastic bag.

Don’t just pour croutons out of the box; homemade croutons are a quick and easy way to add a little extra crunch to any salad or soup.
