Breakfast Foods Make the Move – The Gourmet Waffle Trend

When something tastes so good, how can it be confined to just one meal? Perhaps this is the logic that is propelling one the hottest culinary arts trends – the gourmet waffle. Breakfast simply cannot selfishly claim the waffle as only a start-your-morning type of food. Restaurants all over the country, including the California culinary arts scene, are embracing this tasty trend. From top notch restaurants to street vendors, the waffle is taking on a whole new place in the culinary arts scene.

Waffles for any time of day – delivered!

Living in the San Francisco area, you may be familiar with Love Knot Waffles, a Bay Area favorite among waffle lovers all over. The owners combine the Belgian traditional waffle recipes with some sustainable culinary flair of their own. These include flavors like orange, zanta current, sour cherry, pineapple and candied ginger, among many other non-traditional twists. Perhaps the best part is that these can be delivered right to your door. This is just one great example of culinary arts changing with the times and creating a one-of-a-kind business that matches the current culinary trends.

 Waffle sandwiches

Perhaps one of the most imaginative creations yet to come from the California culinary waffle movement, is the sandwich. In Orange County, you can find the newly opened Bruixe which features its “bold fold” waffle. These sandwich style meals include a folded waffle containing an Angus beef patty with all the normal hamburger fixings and dessert waffles folded in half to make the perfect fruit and cream dessert sandwich. How about peanut butter and jelly…on a waffle? Creative and completely unique, this shop puts a lunch and dinner twist on traditional Belgian waffles.

Street vendor waffles find a home

If you have lived in the Bay Area long, you have probably heard of the Waffle Mania stand. For years it has traveled around offering homemade on-the-go waffles much like hot dog venders have been doing for decades. While there is still a truck that makes the rounds to events in the area, it has also opened a storefront shop (that resembles more of a kiosk), as part of a permanent business location. This waffle-loving business not only had a great idea, but learned to expand on it to develop and even more successful business plan.

If you have a particular food, or food combination, that you love making for yourself, perhaps the waffle culinary trend can inspire you to make your own trends in the culinary arts industry. New ideas and combinations have helped many great chefs become famous and many ideas turn into successful business plans. Let your imagination run wild and don’t be afraid to try adding your own flair to any of America’s most loved recipes!
