How to Cure a Hangover Naturally

‘Tis the season for office parties, holiday get-togethers, and New Years Eve celebrations. All these festivities can be a lot of fun but they can also lead to the occasional hangover the following morning. While some suffering may be inevitable, and perhaps even well deserved, there are some measures you can take to make yourself feel better and get to the office on time. Read on to find out how to cure a hangover naturally.

Water

This one may seem obvious but it truly is the best offense and defense when it comes to hangovers which are at least 50% dehydration. Your best bet is to drink plenty of water before, during and after the party to prevent those nasty next morning headaches.

B Vitamins

Drinking large quantities of alcohol can deplete the body of essential B 12 vitamins. These vitamins control many of the body’s metabolic functions including processing alcohol. To prevent your body from running low load up on foods that are high in B vitamins like broccoli, spinach, beets and bell peppers before and after a night on the town.

Sleep

What your body needs most after a night of overindulgence is a good night’s sleep. It gives your body a chance to process all the alcohol and recuperate and the best part is you get to sleep right through the worst of it. Always try to leave yourself a solid 8 hours of down time after a night of partying.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C contains enzymes that help break down alcohol in the body. Drinking juices rich in vitamin C such as orange or grapefruit juice can really help a nasty hangover and the natural sugars they contain will speed up the process even further getting you back on your feet faster.

Bloody Mary

A classic hangover remedy, a good spicy Bloody Mary can help you forget your pain and suffering a little while longer and while the vodka might not be exactly what your body needs, the nutrients in the tomato juice can help make your hangover a little more forgiving.

Exercise

It might be the last thing you feel like doing after a crazy night out but sometimes the best way to get rid of that hangover is to sweat it out. The natural endorphins released during exercise can really boost your mood, just be sure to drink lots of water so that you don’t become more dehydrated than you already are.

Eat a Big Breakfast

Sometimes there is no better way to deal with a hangover than to eat it away. Whether you prefer pancakes or eggs and toast, filling that empty nauseous stomach will help get your day back on track. If you enjoy the culinary arts consider enrolling in Atlanta culinary schools to learn more about cooking breakfast and other hangover friendly meals.
