Board Games for Food Lovers
Most of us have fond memories of playing board games as children. Maybe you and your friends loved to play Risk or Monopoly or maybe your family had a weekly game night when you played other favorites like Clue, Life, Pictionary, or Connect Four.
But with the introduction of the App Store, our time with board games and family and friends has been replaced by alone time with our favorite apps. Having a conversation over a game of Scrabble has been replaced by texting while playing Words With Friends.Walk the halls of a culinary school in Georgia and you might see students texting while going between classes. It’s just the way things are in our digital world.
We miss those board game days and wondered what board game creators were up to these days. We were surprised to find several board games that are food themed. These games will bring a new twist to the old classics and provide you with hours of fun and food.
5 Food-Themed Board Games
Despite the rise of the app and handheld devices, board game creators are making more new board games than ever before. Try one of these games and whip up a batch of fun for everyone.
- Scrabble: Cooking Edition
Scrabble might be considered one of the nerdiest board games ever, but in a good way. Those seven wood tiles either give you a multi-syllabic, triple word score triumph or a two-letter bust. This new version of the old classic is made for foodies and graduates of culinary schools of all ages. Recipe cards enable players to double and triple their scores with new competitive rules that give extra points for food related words.
- Foodie Fight
This game is best described as Trivial Pursuit for food lovers. Its 1,000 questions will test your knowledge of all things food related, including culinary science, celebrity chefs, foreign cuisine, and historical facts. Only serious foodies need apply for this challenge.
- Eat It
This food trivia game is a little easier to play than Foodie Fight. Geared toward younger players age 7 and up, Eat It’s categories include Snack Attack, Cookies, Ice Cream & Desserts, Candy, and Chocolate. This sweet and tasty game will test your knowledge of sweet treats and their history. You may need to brush your teeth after playing this game.
- A Taste of Wine and Murder
Do enjoy murder mystery parties where each guest plays a character and attempts to solve the crime a la Clue? If so, then this is the game for you. The game comes complete with scripts and clues for each of the characters so that you can get to the bottom of the mystery. And as for food, it comes with a complete menu of wines, cheeses, and other foods that relate to the events of the mystery.
- Zombie Dice
While strictly not a food game, it does involve a lot of eating … of brains that is. In this fun game of dice throwing players role dice and try to collect as many brains as possible. But be careful though, if you role too many shotgun blasts, your turn – just like a real-life zombie – is over.
