PASADENA -
Student chefs at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts worked Saturday on the
official cake that will be a part of Pasadena's 125th birthday celebration next
weekend.
When complete,
the spectacular culinary creation will display Pasadena history in sugar, cake,
icing and fondant, from the city's agricultural beginnings (an orange grove),
to its landmarks including the Rose Bowl, Colorado St. Bridge, Arroyo Seco
Parkway/Pasadena Freeway; celebrations like the Rose Parade and Doo Dah Parade;
even celebrities - mainly the Little Old Lady from Pasadena.
The June 11
cake-cutting with Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and other dignitaries will take
place beginning at 3p.m. on the grounds of Pasadena Museum of History and Avery
Dennison.
The main cake
will be on display following the cutting ceremony for the public to view and
photograph. In addition to the special cake, Le Cordon Bleu's chefs will create
massive sheet cakes in the winning flavor - Tuxedo: white cake, chocolate cake,
white chocolate mousse and fudge filling, whipped vanilla chantilly cream and
chocolate ganache. The cake will be served to the public attending the official
festivities.
