Basics of Planning a Father’s Day Party

Celebrating Father’s Day is one way to show your dad how much he is appreciated. What better way to do this than to throw a party? With careful planning and preparation, you can make this day a cherished memory for years to come.

First, pick a theme for your special dad. What does he like to do? Whether it is sports , reading or watching movies, you can use this theme for your party. Decide whether the party will be a family affair, or with friends, or even a neighborhood block party, and plan accordingly with culinary arts, drink, games, invitations, etc.

Make the food simple, keeping dad’s favorite dishes in mind. A simple family affair makes it easier to plan, however having extended family, friends, and neighbors involved, it may be best to have an informal “pot-luck” so that the expense of food doesn’t fall to any single individual. Cooking school in Florida and other states actually even teach the fun of having a “pot-luck” with friends and family. This goes for drinks as well, whether it is a traditional coffee and tea, or “adult” drinks such as beer and mixed drinks. A “B.Y.O.B.” policy needs to be put in place, if necessary. For a larger party, be sure to have plenty of clean up supplies, such as garbage bags, storage bags, etc. and a plan to clean up after the event. Writing all of these things down, and having a detailed plan will go a long way to insure a good time for all, especially the guest of honor – dad.

For other than a family affair, invitations are an excellent way to communicate the specifics of the party. Be sure to give plenty of notice, as with any party, and the invitations may be as elaborate or informal as desired. Invitations can be hand- or computer-made or store-bought.  Be sure to communicate the time, place, dress, any food or beverage information and a contact number for any other questions.

For a simple family affair, you can decorate dad’s favorite chair, such as his recliner, or the chair where he sits at dinner time, or his favorite outdoor chair, depending on where the party is to be held. Using streamers, balloons, cut-outs, you are only hampered by your imagination. You could even make a cut out crown stating him “KING FOR THE DAY”.

If dad is a sports fan, tickets to a favorite event would be an appropriate gift. If he enjoys cooking, then a new customized apron and utensils could show him how much you appreciate him. New books or tickets to a new movie could be an appropriate gift, depending on his individual tastes. Just make sure that it is a gift from the heart to let him know that you are thinking of him. Need a simple inexpensive gift? Make “dad cash” (coupons) which dad can “cash” in for chores that dad usually does or has to ask to have done (be sure to follow through with these, so that they don’t become meaningless, otherwise what is the point?).

Using these ideas as a start, you are well on your way toward making a day that will be memorable for your special dad. Just don’t forget, when it comes to food, the culinary arts creations you choose should reflect the preferences of dear old Dad! You may be surprised with how much you enjoy getting involved in the cooking part of the party planning and perhaps it will lead you to look at cooking school in Florida.
