Planning a Delicious Father’s Day Barbeque
Nothing is more fun in the summer than a barbeque! Nothing makes dad feel more special than doing something for him to celebrate your love and appreciation for him. Combine these together and a Father’s Day barbeque will be hard to beat!
Making sure that you have the right menu items is paramount. Making sure that you have enough of these menu items is just as important. Who wants to come to a barbeque, and find out that all the goodies are gone? It doesn’t matter how tasty they were, if you don’t get to eat. Schools for cooking will stress these important basics as well.
Find out what dad’s favorite barbeque foods are. After all, this is his day, and his barbeque, right? Is dad going to be the grill master, or will someone else man the grill on this day? Is it going to be a small family affair or a large get together with family and friends? What will be served to drink? Will there be coffee, tea, soda, or more of an adult selection, or a combination of the two? Will everyone be eating indoors or outdoors? Who is in charge of preparation, setup and cleanup? All of these ideas will need to be figured out and coordinated, so nothing is left to fall between the cracks. The idea is to have an enjoyable, fun day, remember? Cooking school in Miami should run just as smoothly as your own grilling day!
Well, first things first: If invitations are needed, plan on at least a month out. That way anyone coming from a distance, or needing to make extra arrangements will have enough time to do so. Be sure to have them RSVP, so the amount of food will match the anticipated crowd. For a small family affair, you should only need a few days to get everything together.
A few days before the big event, you must figure out what is on the menu, how much food and drink is needed/anticipated (making sure to write it all down), and head out to the grocery store. Does anything need to marinate before cooking? Does anything need a long chill time before serving? Do not forget to count these things into consideration. Also, do not forget ice for the drinks, as this is something that is easily overlooked. Refrigeration/freezer space is another consideration when planning the menu.
Is the grill large enough to accommodate the amount of food being prepared? This can be an oversight, and one might consider borrowing another grill, buying a larger grill, or even renting a “party size” grill for the occasion. You can find out about these options online or through the yellow pages. Schools for cooking will often teach you that you need to have adequate space for cooking your ingredients and with grilling, this basic remains the same.
Invitations (if needed), food and drink selection, purchasing, preparation, setup, party, and cleanup are all essential for throwing dad the best father’s day barbeque ever. A little bit of planning, some spontaneity (a bit of luck thrown in for good measure), and the willingness to go all out will help insure your success, and hopefully provide dad with a memorable day. Here’s to celebrating a memorable and hopefully delicious Father’s Day!
