Helping Our Soldiers

March 7, 2011 Le Cordon Bleu General, Le Cordon Bleu, Seattle 0 Comments

Le Cordon Bleu Seattle Chef Instructors visited Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), located just south of Seattle last week for an opportunity to share the joy of culinary arts with our soldiers. These soldiers are assigned to the Warrior Transition Units for healing before returning to duty or transitioning to veteran status.

The activities coordinator for the base contacted Le Cordon Bleu to partner in the Culinary Showcase program. The Culinary Showcase promotes interaction with the wounded soldiers and activities to help with the healing process. Our instructors jumped at the chance to be a part of this worthy cause. Le Cordon Bleu Seattle will be teaching 10 Culinary Showcase classes throughout the year for JBLM’s monthly series.

The first class was presented by Chef Brian Figler and Chef Isaac Frerichs along with Le Cordon Bleu students CJ Monaghan and Samantha Swanz. The kitchen at Fort Lewis-McChord has 7 work stations with basic cooking equipment, and 14 soldiers worked in pairs to compose a delicious dish: Chicken Ballontine served with a Mushroom Pan Sauce accompanied with Potato Gratin and Asparagus. Yum!

Thank you to Chefs Figler and Frerichs and our wonderful students for supporting this cause!
