LEADING ITALIAN CHEFS FROM GREATER LOS ANGELES JOIN FORCES TO SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE WITH STUDENTS IN TRAINING AT LE CORDON BLEU

March 16, 2011 Le Cordon Bleu Los Angeles 0 Comments

Los Angeles’ greatest Italian chefs will pass forward their expertise in healthy cooking to the next generation of students now training at Le Cordon Bleu Hollywood as part of a special 2011 “Club EATalian” campaign to create awareness about the epidemic of childhood obesity and diabesity sweeping America – and about the nutritional benefits of authentic Mediterranean cooking.

The special demonstration by Los Angeles’ masters in Italian cooking begins at 1:30 p.m. March 18 at Le Cordon Bleu Hollywood Campus located at 6370 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028.  The event is part of an innovative series of events sponsored by The Italian Ministry of Economic Development in association with the Italian Trade Commission and the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West.

Participating chefs include Celestino Drago of Drago restaurant, Gino Angelini of Angelini Osteria, Maurizio Mazzon of Il Fornaio and Salvatore and Mario Marino of Marino restaurant.  Each chef will demonstrate a different delicious, nutritious Mediterranean Italian dish.  The event will also feature remarks from Patrizia Giarratana, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Economic Development of Italy, as well as brief presentations from one of Italy’s leading Prosciutto consortium (Prosciutto Di Parma) and a new smartphone application which provides helpful information about food, recipes and restaurants (Gambero Rosso).  It will close with a healthy dessert for children by Chef Reba Lawless-Berdakin from Piccolo Chef, a leader in teaching children (and their grown-ups) the art of healthy and delicious cooking.

“The chefs participating in “Club EATalian” are world-renowned experts who are personally committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle through delicious, nutritious recipes that showcase innovative and good-for-you recipes,” said Patrizia Giarratana, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Economic Development, Italy.  “We hope to influence the chefs of tomorrow by arming them with critical information about fresh ingredients and authentic cooking styles that may also help combat the growing epidemic of obesity and diabetes in the U.S.”

“We are always looking for ways to advance the cooking profession and to impart knowledge that positively impacts future generations,” said Tony Bondi, President of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts – Los Angeles.  “Le Cordon Bleu will open the event to the entire campus and Head of Curricula Chef Scott Storms will provide his students to do any preparation work for the chefs.  We look forward to participating in an informative event.”

ABOUT THE ITALIAN MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Thanks to the integration of International Commerce and Communications, the Ministry of Economic Development now possesses all the necessary tools for allowing key factors affecting the country's economic growth – investment promotion, innovation, energy, new communication technologies, internationalization – to be managed in a unified and integrated way. These tools aim to support companies along the difficult path of globalization and, since the government's task is to stimulate, facilitate and sustain the development of the economy, they will be used in co-ordinated and consistent actions.

Supporting the Italian economic system beyond the country’s borders is a top priority and this will see Italy launching a new export and investment challenge. The opening up of markets – emerging markets in particular – will bring about great development opportunities for the Italian economy. Italy can seize these opportunities by reinforcing its presence abroad through increasingly integrated promotion and financial activities. The Ministry of Economic Development is committed to achieving this goal.
