How to Prepare a Menu for Your St. Patrick’s Day Party
This St. Patrick’s Day you may wish to stay home and plan an intimate party with friends and family, rather than hit the bars for green beer and Irish whiskey. Preparing a home cooked Irish meal is a great way to celebrate the holiday and show off your love for the Minneapolis culinary arts. Here are just a few of the great recipes you can incorporate in your party menu.
Salmon Mousse
To get your party started off on the right foot be sure to have a few simple yet elegant appetizers prepared. One that always impresses your guests is an easy to make salmon mousse. Smoked salmon, lemon juice, sour cream and gelatin mixed together in a blender and allowed to set makes a deceptively fancy dish to wow your guest. Serve with an assortment of crackers and a variety of cheeses (don’t forget to incorporate a good strong Irish cheddar) and your party is off to a great start.
Irish Soda Bread
Many of those who haven’t attended a cooking school may feel intimidated at the thought of making their own bread but an Irish feast would not be complete without a classic Irish soda bread. Flavored with caraway seeds and raisins this bread is perfect as an accompaniment to your Irish dinner and the left overs make wonderful toast. No fancy ingredients or special tools are needed to make this classic bread and it takes less than two hours to prepare and bake.
Corned Beef and Cabbage
It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s day without corned beef and cabbage. If you don’t have a lot of time to spend cooking, consider making this dish in a slow cooker or crockpot. All you have to do is chop your cabbage, some potatoes and carrots and add them to your meat. You will have hours to get the rest of your party together while this entree cooks itself.
Coffee and Bailey’s
After the feast you have just prepared your guests will most likely be too full to need a fancy dessert. Put on a fresh pot of coffee and serve with Baileys for a party perfect Irish tradition. You can also pick up some store bought short bread or sugar cookies and decorate with green frosting or green sprinkles if you would like to have a little something sweet to serve on the side.
Planning a party menu is a very fun and satisfying way to practice your love of all things food. If you would like to learn more about the Minneapolis culinary arts you may want to consider attending a cooking school where you can learn about fantastic food preparations from all over the globe.
