5 Non-Traditional Sandwiches Your Family Will Love

Everyone loves a good tradition, but not necessarily when eating lunch.  Indeed, people have concocted every manner of combination in making sandwiches that are a strong deviation from traditional—you know, a couple of slices of bread, a few slabs of meat and a couple of shards of cheese, topped with your favorite condiment.  Boring.  Edible and filling, yes…but B-O-R-I-N-G.  Boring!  Part of the reason we love the culinary arts is because we can be creative right? In fact, this is one of the main ideas taught in Arizona culinary schools across the state. You must think out of the box to create something fabulous! So why can’t this apply to making something as simple as sandwiches?

If you need some culinary arts inspiration to break out of your boring sandwich routine, here are some great ideas to break you out of lunchtime boredom!

  1. Peanut butter and Bananas – This is the easiest to make.  Just make a peanut butter sandwich as you normally would but add some fresh cream butter to one slice and sliced bananas in between.  Yummy.
  1. Mexican Grilled Cheese – Another really simple, but delightful “sandwich,” you already know what this is.  A Quesadilla.  Using a hot, flat griddle, lay a flour tortilla upon it and spread some shredded cheese over the tortilla.  Allow to melt, then fold the tortilla in half, flip and serve.
  1. Philly Cheese-steak on Pita – Here is the easy way.  Use sliced sandwich meat, roast beef is a favorite for this.  Take out several slices together and slice these in long strips about half an inch wide.  Then toss these into a skillet with butter or margarine along with slices of onion and bell pepper.  Stirring frequently (actually, constantly) add shredded cheese of choice when the meat and veggies are cooked to your preference.  Stir around until the cheese is melted throughout and serve on the Pita bread.  Tasty.
  1. Fried-bread Chili-burger – This one takes some advance effort.  The first thing you do is make a bun of fried-bread.  This is done by taking a common yeast-dough recipe and making balls the size of your fist.  Deep fry these balls until dark brown all around.  Allow to cool while you fry the burgers and prep the chili.  Cut the bread and add the burger and chili.  Zesty.
  1. Hot Dogs N Sauerkraut – Here is a trusty old favorite, but often forgotten.  Cook some hot dogs but cook them in the sauerkraut.  Then serve on buns or bread.

With these culinary arts creations as inspiration, you will be sure to fall in love with lunch all over again. If you feel inspired to take you culinary love to a new level, you may want to check out Arizona culinary schools in your area for a full list of classes!
