Cooking for One -Single Servings Ideas
There are many quick and easy ways for someone to cook a great meal for themselves and not take forever or use a lot of pots and pans in the process. The culinary arts shouldn’t only be reserved for parties of two or more! If you have a night to yourself, be creative. Now is the opportunity to try out some of those recipes you have been holding on to. While Oregon culinary options are everywhere you look, going out to eat alone isn’t always as satisfying as cooking and enjoying a meal in the comfort of your own home. Just using simple ingredients like chicken, pork, pasta and vegetables you can make amazing meals that won’t cost you a lot of time or money.
It's not always easy to get the energy to cook a homemade meal for just one. However there are some very simple, quick and delicious works of culinary art that you can make that are well worth a little effort. Plus you can take one night a week to pre-make most of these and just pop it in the oven to heat when ready.
Chicken
Starting with chicken you can take a boneless, skinless breast and cut into small chunks. Sauté it until it browns. Add spinach or broccoli and stir into pasta, whatever kind you like best. Cover in creamy Alfredo sauce and crumble premade bacon then stir it all in. It's amazing and easy to do.
You can also use chicken sliced in thin strips and dip it lightly in egg. Then coat this with a mix of flour, garlic and onion powder, dill weed and salt and pepper to taste with sprinkle parmesan generously mixed in. Fry it till golden brown in light oil and serve with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It takes no time at all and can even be baked instead of fried for fewer calories.
Beef
With ground beef you can mix in spices to taste and form one or two burger patties. Cut it in half lengthwise, open and sprinkle in your favorite cheese, then put the patty back together. Cook it like normal and serve it with jasmine rice for a side and even add a veggie like Brussels sprouts or broccoli.
You can also use skirt steak for easy fajitas. Just get a red or green pepper, a yellow onion and one small skirt steak. Cut it all into thin strips, coat with Mexican seasonings and sauté. Serve it on warmed tortillas with light sour cream.
Pork
Cut one or two pork chops lengthwise and rub your favorite seasonings into it, then place in the oven to bake with mushroom or onion soup slathered on top. Once done, add it to brown rice and sautéed green beans. It's absolutely mouthwatering and the perfect dish for one!
These are just a few simple, quick and easy ways for you to make amazing, great tasting meals at home. If you find that you would like to learn even more ways to take your skills to the next level, perhaps a Oregon culinary school may help lead you down that path.
