How to Cook Eggs Over Easy
Breakfast in bed is one of the all-time favorite Mother’s Day gifts. Every mother is sure to appreciate a well cooked breakfast of over easy eggs, hash-browns, toast, and orange juice. Living in the beautiful golden state gives you great access to the freshest California culinary ingredients possible. In order to deliver this gift to your special loved one, you first need to know how to properly cook an egg over easy. Below are some simple steps to walk you through this traditional culinary arts process.
Step #1- Preparing the pan
One of the first things to consider when making over easy eggs is the frying pan that you will be using. It is absolutely crucial that the eggs do not stick to the pan, and this is why you should use a non-stick pan or at least a non-stick spray.
Step #2- Cracking the egg
Turn the heat on medium and allow the pan to warm up a little before cracking the eggs. Crack as many eggs as you are planning on making straight into the pan. However the eggs fall into the pan is how you should cook them. Because the goal of over easy eggs is to keep the yolk runny, you do not want to disturb the eggs too much by moving them around. You can, however, use the spatula and push the white part closer to the yolk if it runs farther away than you want it to.
Step #3- Watching the whites
Watch the white part of the eggs while they are cooking. When you think they are cooked and solid and the eggs are ready to flip, you can gently slide the egg around the pan by slightly shifting the pan.
Step #4- Flipping the egg
Flipping the eggs can be a bit tricky but can be a fun culinary arts trick once you have mastered it. One way to do this without breaking the yolk is to quickly slide the pan in an upward and side motion. As long as the pan has enough non-stick coating on it, the eggs should flip easily and with little effort.
Step #5- Cooking the other side
Once the eggs are flipped, allow them to cook on that side for just a few seconds before placing them on the plate. This ensures that the yolk will stay in place by cooking a thin layer of the white part over top of it.
Step #6- Serve and enjoy
As long as the yolk is still runny inside the white casing of the eggs, you have properly cooked the eggs over easy. Serve and enjoy! Mom will be so impressed. Even if this first trial run of eggs isn’t a success, you can always cheat and take Mom to one of the amazing California culinary restaurants in the area as a backup!
