Making A Mother’s Day Country Breakfast
Mother’s Day is just around the corner and you want to do something special. You COULD just get her that same old day spa you have used for the last 8 years, OR you could make her a breakfast that she will never forget. Whether you have been to classes at schools for cooking or you are typically the frozen waffle type of cook, with a little effort and a lot of love you can prepare a great breakfast for mom this holiday.
You mom will most likely be more impressed with something expressing a personal touch, so what better way to show this than with breakfast? She will know you are fresh out of culinary school in Minnesota when she tastes your fabulous creation!
Here is what you need:
- Eggs
- Link Sausage
- Bacon
- Ham
- Cheese, shredded cheddar
- Country Gravy
- Potatoes
- Real Butter
- Cantalope
- Honey Dew Melon
- Watermelon
- Strawberries
- Bisquits
- Orange Juice
- Milk
- Coffee
Now that is a lot of food, but we are talking about the women who has taken care of you all your life, so going overboard here seems like a minor mistake to make! Schools for cooking would praise your efforts and chances are your mom will too!
By serving up a 16-course breakfast, you are going to really impress mom this year. The most important part of any gift is presentation and attitude. A breakfast like this sends all the right messages and generally brings the average mom to tears—the good kind.
What you are going to do first is put the biscuits in the oven following the directions on the can (we know you are going to cheat a little). While these are cooking, fry your sausage and bacon; begin grilling the ham. While this is cooking, begin cutting the melons into chunks and placing in cloth-covered bowls on the table. Wash and set the berries similarly.
At this time you can chunk up the potatoes leaving the skin on, making half-inch chunks.
Once the meats have finished cooking, remove and place on serving trays. If the biscuits are complete, turn off the oven, and the meats can be placed with them to keep them warm.
Using some of the grease from the meats, begin your country gravy by stirring flour slowly into the hot grease until even and adding milk slowly while stirring constantly. Add black pepper to taste and cook until smooth, stirring frequently. When complete, place in bowl and put on table.
Using the remaining grease, place half in the skilled for scrambling the eggs and the other half use for the country potatoes, which are what the chunked potatoes are for. Cook these potatoes until they turn a golden tone.
Place all the remaining items in serving bowls and send for your Mother. This is her day and her breakfast.
Remember, presentation is part of the gift, so place the foods onto the table in separate serving trays or bowls and have all the silverware, serving plates, and napkins placed on the table prior to serving.
When you call mom in for her special breakfast, be sure to hold the chair for her and as the final touch…now listen very carefully, for this is the single most important part of your Mother’s special country breakfast for Mother’s Day—Wash the dishes. This will put your mom over the edge—expect tears—the good kind.
