Survival Guide for Students in Sin City

November 8, 2009 Le Cordon Bleu Las Vegas 0 Comments

When most people think of Las Vegas, they think of The Strip with its dazzling lights, luxuriant casinos and hotels, and the never-ending hustle and bustle of America’s #1 playground. As a student living in Sin City, life can be another thing altogether. The city offers plenty of culture, with the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra, a ballet, music, arts and more. There is also to plenty to do outdoors, with more than 60 golf courses, hiking, camping and more. As with being a student anywhere, the key is to set goals and timeframes for completing those goals. The hard part is making sure that you adhere to them.

Make a Schedule for Yourself

One incredibly helpful tool is creating a schedule for yourself laying out when you are going to do work for certain classes, when you are going to go out and have fun, and other daily tasks that you need to complete. Sticking to this schedule can be difficult, but once you’ve gotten into the habit of completing things by a certain time, you will get into a rhythm. This can go a long way in helping you find a balance between leisure time and work time. Following the schedule can be difficult, especially in a city with as much to do as Las Vegas, but you’ll often find that your leisure time is considerably more enjoyable when you don’t have school work hanging over your head.

Find a Good Place to Study

There are plenty of places that the Las Vegas locals go that are relatively free of the constant flow of tourists moving in and out of the city. If you don’t work well at home, find a local coffee shop, or some place without distractions, where you can focus on what you need to do. There are a number of parks, and natural areas that can be a good place to write a paper, provided you don’t need wireless internet. One good coffee shop located outside the main city is It’s A Grind. There is plenty of comfortable seating, and the blues and jazz themed atmosphere is perfect for trying to get things done. It’s A Grind is located at: 8470 W. Desert Inn Rd. #H1 Las Vegas, Nevada.

Always Remember to Have Fun

Part of being a student is learning about life as well as your courses. Managing your schedule and making sure that you have the opportunity to do both will make for the best possible educational experience. It enables you to learn about your interests while at the same time learning about yourself. Often using your knowledge of yourself and the world in the way you apply your studies is the most valuable lesson you can learn at school.
