Five Non-Alcoholic Drinks that Pack a Punch
A good drink is an important part of any meal. They are so important, in fact, that many restaurant management school programs are adding mixology to their curriculum. But what do you do when you flavor without the bite of alcohol?
If you are looking for a drink other than soda or water this holiday season that doesn’t contain alcohol, you may have a hard time finding what you’re looking for. Because not all “virgin” drinks are created equal, we’ve put together this list of five recipes for non-alcoholic drinks that will help to liven up any gathering.
Cranberry Punch
The tang of cranberries and the fizz of the soda make this a fun drink for kids and adults.
- 2 cans frozen cranberry juice
- 1 can frozen orange juice
- 2 16 fluid ounce bottles of ginger ales or lemon and lime pop
- Fresh or frozen cranberries and oranges slices for on top
Mix all the liquids together and add cranberries and sliced oranges. An ice mold will help to keep it chilled.
Hot Mulled Cider
Usually made with apple brandy, this delicious cold-weather treat is just as tasty in its non-alcoholic form.
- 2 qts. apple cider
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 orange (unpeeled)
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
Combine cider, sugar, ginger and orange in slow cooker. Tie cinnamon and cloves in a small cheesecloth bag; add to crockpot. Cover and cook on low for 2 to 4 hours.
“Pina Colada” Punch
A taste of the islands can be yours without the rum with this delicious Caribbean favorite.
- 1/2 gallon pina colada sherbet
- 20 ounce can crushed pineapple, in its own juice
- 1 liter of 7 Up
Break up the sherbet in a punch bowl with the crushed pineapple. Add the 7 Up.
Nadarita Punch
- 1 32-ounce bottle of non-alcoholic strawberry margarita mix or strawberry daiquiri mix
- 2 large (12 ounce size) cans frozen concentrate lemonade, orange juice or lime juice, or any combination of the two juices.
- 2 quarts 7-Up (or Sprite or Mountain Dew)
- 1 quart Lime sherbet
Mix the strawberry margarita or daiquiri mix with the two cans of frozen juice. Add the 7-Up and sherbet. Mix. If, after mixing, the flavor is little too sweet add some water to cut the sweetness.
Golden Punch
This unique punch uses tea as its base for a flavor that is reminiscent of hard punches from the 17th and 18th centuries.
- tea, 2 quarts
- frozen orange juice concentrate, a 12 oz. can size with water
- pineapple juice, 46 oz. can size
- grapefruit juice,46 oz. can size
- sugar, 2 cups
- ginger ale, 2 quarts
Combine all of the ingredients and serve with ice.
A good drink is a Las Vegas culinary tradition. These five non-alcoholic drinks will not only pack a punch, but they’ll make you the life of the party.
