DIY Halloween Candy

Prices for everything are more expensive these days. Even Halloween candy has been hit hard by the boogeyman of inflation. When was the last time you or your kids saw a full-sized Snicker’s or Butterfinger? It’s probably been a lot of years. It’s not that people don’t want to give out great treats at Halloween. It’s simply a matter of expense. Those big candy bars are expensive, even at your favorite wholesale club.

But you can beat the expense and still give out candy that is bigger and tastes better than those little fun-sized portions that are so popular these days. All you have to do is invest a little time, and a lot less money, to make your own do-it-yourself Halloween candy.Even if you’ve never gone to cooking school in Minnesota, you can make delicious homemade treats this Halloween.

Depending on your skill and level of commitment, you can make everything from your own candy corn to fudge to your own full-sized candy bars with nuts, caramel, and chocolate.

Caramel Corn Chocolate Bark

One of the easiest ways to make homemade candy is to make bark.Chocolate bark is very easy to make and can be made of any of your favorite ingredients. In this recipe, we use dark chocolate, white chocolate, and pre-made caramel corn.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 2 cups of chopped caramel popcorn

Preparation:

  • Line a ½-inch deep cookie sheet with wax paper
  • Melt both chocolates in separate bowls. Use a microwave or double boiler
  • Stir 1 cup of the caramel corn into the dark chocolate
  • Spread the mixture in an even layer about ¼-inch thick over the prepared cookie sheet. Don’t worry about covering the entire sheet
  • Using a tablespoonful at a time drizzle half of the white chocolate over the dark chocolate
  • Sprinkle the remaining caramel corn over the dark chocolate
  • Drizzle the remaining white chocolate
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to harden the chocolate
  • Remove the bark from the refrigerator and break into large pieces

You can serve the bark in colorful Halloween-themed bags to your trick-or-treaters.

Two or three batches of caramel corn chocolate bark are cheaper than a single box of large-sized candy bars.At those prices, you’ll be able to feed the entire neighborhood this Halloween with sweet treats that make everyone think that you’ve secretly enrolled in a culinary college.Don’t worry, though; your secret is safe with us.
