Pumpkin Ice Cream and Other Unusually Tasty Treats

When fall comes around each year, it seems that most of us end up entertaining on a more regular basis. While desserts like apple and pumpkin pie are fabulous traditional staples of the season, they can get a little humdrum after a full season of holiday feasting. This year, break away from the norm. Whether having your own harvest season get together, or bringing a dish as a guest, here are three different options that we think will set you apart from the rest. Soon friends and family alike will be asking, “Have you ever thought of pursuing a culinary career?” Don’t worry this easy-to-make list can be our little secret.

Pumpkin Ice Cream

While pumpkin and ice cream seem like they have nothing in common on the surface, when you put the two together, you get a surprisingly tasty and perfect seasonal delight. The fall is the perfect time for including harvest vegetables in to your cooking and you will see it’s a growing autumn trend in the California culinary world.

Ingredients:
1 to 1.5 cans of pumpkin
I cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
I teaspoon ground ginger
1 ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ cup diced pecans
½ gallon vanilla ice cream
32 vanilla wafers

Directions:
1. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
2. Slowly add softened vanilla ice cream
3. Once mixed well, begin folding in pecan bits
4. Line the bottom of a sealable container with vanilla wafers, spreading ice cream over top
5. Repeat to form multiple layers, freeze and serve.

Chocolate Tea Recipe

This interesting option makes deciding between hot chocolate and tea no longer an issue. This season, whip up a batch of chocolate tea as an accompaniment to dessert or simply enjoy it on its own after a fantastic belly busting meal. Such a wonderful rich taste is rarely accomplished with such little fuss!

Ingredients:
1 tea bag
Hot water
2 tablespoons hot chocolate

Directions:
1. Boil water, pour and allow tea bag to step for three to five minutes.
2. Remove tea bag and stir in hot chocolate mix.

Australian Honey Cake

Bring a bit of Australia to your California culinary creations. This aromatic and moist cake is a wonderful change of pace for an after dinner delight.

Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
3/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cloves
2 tablespoon cocoa
1 cup self rising flour
1 cup flour
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and begin by mixing together the eggs and sugar.
2. Next add each of the following ingredients in this order to allow for proper mixing - oil, honey, soda, cloves, cocoa and flour and then add boiling water.
3. Allow mixture to bake for 1 to 1-1/4 hours. Make sure to lower heat to 350°F after about a half hour of baking.
4. Once again reduce the heat to about to 325°F for the final 10 to 15 minutes.

Try any of these three unusual bust oh-so-tasty treats this fall and see where it takes you. If you have a passion for baking and cooking then maybe a culinary career is for you after all!
