Top 5 Places to Get New Recipes

September 5, 2009 Le Cordon Bleu Los Angeles 0 Comments

As you are studying to become a California chef, you will need a steady supply of new ideas and inspiration. And for graduates of cooking colleges in California that means new recipes. New recipes to test your developing skills in cooking and food presentation. New recipes to keep you on top of the latest trends in the culinary world. And new recipes to add to your growing stable of signature dishes—your calling card as a chef.

Here are five places to turn to when you are looking for new recipes:

  • Friends and Family
Cooking is all about sharing, right? And who better to share your love of cooking with than your friends and family. Chances are that a few of your friends and family work in the food service industry, making them excellent sources. Even if they don’t, most will be happy to share their best loved family recipes that can be added to your personal recipe box.
  • Television
It’s no exaggeration to say that nearly every network and cable channel has a cooking related show. Instead of worrying about who is going to back stab who, keep a notepad nearby and take notes on what the competitors are doing during their challenges. The network morning shows usually have daily food and recipe segments also.
  • Magazines
Magazines have always been one of the best places to find new recipes. In addition to the obvious food and leisure magazines, take a look at some of the general interest and women’s interest magazines. And if you’re looking for lighter fare, don’t forget to check out the fitness and health related magazine.
  • The Internet
Just like a library at your fingertips, the Internet is an indispensible source when it comes to finding new recipes and staying on top of the latest culinary, leisure, and lifestyle trends. If you don’t have the time and money to scour TV shows and magazine, just log on to get all of the culinary information you can digest. Recipe sites, how-to videos, and sites from all of your favorite food-related TV shows and magazines.
  • Clubs and Organizations
Joining a local cooking club is great way to learn culinary secrets and make some new friends at the same time. Often these clubs will meet weekly or monthly at member’s home to cook a few pre-selected recipes. These group cooking sessions are like your own private cooking school and make a great addition to your more formal Hollywood culinary school education.
