LE CORDON BLEU VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMICS RECEIVES ANTONIN CARÊME MEDAL

Hoffman Estates, Ill. (Nov. 9, 2010) — Le Cordon Bleu (LCB) is proud to announce Chef Kirk T. Bachmann, LCB vice president of academic affairs, was chosen as a 2010 recipient of the Antonin Carême medal.  Presented by the Chefs Association of the Pacific Coast (CAPC), Bachmann is one of only three 2010 recipients.

“I am truly honored and humbled by this recognition,” said Chef Bachmann.  “I’m proud to accept this award and join the ranks of such distinguished chefs. I hope to continue to positively affect the industry and lives of our students.”

The Antonin Carême medal, founded by the CAPC in 1969, honors chefs who have made extraordinary contributions to the culinary profession, to education, to the advancement of gastronomy and to the culinary arts. The medal is named after Chef Antonin Carême, who had a reputation as the ‘Chef of Kings’ and the ‘King of Chefs’ due to his love for the craft and his demonstration of compassion and humane qualities.

“Chef Bachmann is extremely deserving of this award, and we are all very proud of his accomplishments,” said Chef Edward Leonard, CMC, vice president and corporate chef at LCB.   “His continued commitment to the craft and education of young chefs has helped shape Le Cordon Bleu into a premier provider of culinary education.”

Chef Bachmann, a fourth generation chef, received his culinary training at the Western Culinary Institute, now Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland, and went on to open his own restaurant. He earned restaurant of the year awards in 1990 and was recognized on Citation’s “Who’s Who Among Rising Young Americans” in 1992.  After many years of honing his skills in the kitchen, Chef Bachman returned to his alma mater as a chef instructor and played an instrumental role in the implementation of the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Program. In his present role, he ensures the integrity and standards of the Le Cordon Bleu academic program for all 17 Le Cordon Bleu schools in North America.

Chef Bachmann received his medal at an awards dinner Nov. 6 in Los Altos, Calif. He was accompanied by Chef Ferdinand Metz, CMC a previous recipient of the Antonin Carême medal and executive dean and chairman of the LCB National Advisory Board. Chef Leonard was also bestowed the honor of the medal previously.
