Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America Chefs and Graduates Excel in American Culinary Federation Competitions

Culinary Leader Demonstrates Commitment to Excellence

HOFFMAN ESTATES, lll., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Representatives from the 13 campuses of Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America (LCBNA), the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Division of Career Education Corporation, joined together to take part in one of the largest gathering of culinarians in the United States at the 56th Annual American Culinary Federation (ACF) convention, held July 14 through 17 in Philadelphia.

The ACF is the largest and most prestigious organization dedicated to professional chefs in the United States. More than 1,800 chefs, culinarians and food service representatives attended the convention, which featured intense cooking competitions, industry seminars and workshops and a variety of unique culinary events. The convention boasts the largest gathering of culinarians in the country.

This marked Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America's fourth year as a Grand Platinum sponsor of the convention, and many of the schools' chefs and graduates provided educational insight to culinary professionals in addition to dazzling attendees with large sugar showpieces and wowing a sold out room with a demonstration celebrating classical culinary techniques.

"It is just amazing to see our chefs come together and showcase their shared passion for the culinary industry," said Kirk Bachmann, Vice President of Education and Corporate Executive Chef for Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America. "The convention was a great success for our schools and our partners at Le Cordon Bleu International."

Several Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America chefs and graduates were recognized for their culinary talents at the convention:

Eddie Tancredi, a 2003 Pennsylvania Culinary Institute graduate, received a gold medal and Best of Show in the ACF Cold Food Salon. He is in the final year of the ACF Apprentice Program at the Greenbrier Resort, in White Sulpher Springs, W.V., one of the finest resorts in the nation.

Chefs Ron Herbinko and Peter Locante, of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute, were inducted into the ACF's culinary honor society, the American Academy of Chefs.

Chef Joseph Utera from the Orlando Culinary Academy won two bronze medals for his sugar showpieces in the convention's Salon competition.

In addition, Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America also held their annual Culinary Education Council meeting at the convention. Educational leaders from each of the 13 Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America locations attended. Chef Angela Goodman, the Executive Chef from the California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena, was presented with the Prixd'Excellence, an honor given to a single Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America chef each year.

"These recognitions speak highly of the Le Cordon Bleu program and our people," said Bachmann. "The culinary industry is a dynamic, growing industry, and shows no signs of slowing. It is such an honor for our schools and chefs to be considered among the best."
