CSCA Student Chefs and Instructors Fire up the Grill for Charity

PASADENA, Calif. – October 1, 2008 – California School of Culinary Arts (CSCA) will sizzle up a Texas style barbecue for San Gabriel Valley residents on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 561 Restaurant to benefit victims of Hurricane Ike.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Greater Houston Red Cross and Houston Food Bank, volunteer organizations working to provide relief to families and individuals in the Houston area who have been affected by the recent hurricane.

"Individuals in the Houston area have sustained substantial damage from Hurricane Ike." said Bill Momary, CSCA department chair of restaurant operations. "This is a great opportunity for local residents to sample some great-tasting food, while helping those in need. We’re honored to contribute in any way we can."

CSCA student chefs from The School Café and 561 Restaurant will work with Chef Gielen and Chef Zboray, instructors at 561, to create Texan-inspired dishes for the barbecue. Menu items will include pork spare ribs with home-style BBQ sauce, sliced tri tip with a smoked tomato sauce, corn on the cob, Texas-style baked beans, old-fashioned corn bread and peach and blueberry cobbler.
