“SUPERMARKET” DEMI GLACE

1-Quart Jar Heinz “Homestyle Savory Beef Gravy.
1 Quart beef stock
1 Tablespoon butter
1 Small onion, small dice
1 Carrot, peeled and small dice
1 Celery stalk, small dice
1-2 Clove garlic, minced
1 Teaspoon fresh thyme
1 Bay Leaf
˝ Cup dry red wine
1 Tablespoon tomato paste

In medium saucepot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, celery, garlic, thyme and bay leaf. Over medium heat cook until vegetables are browned.

Add tomato paste; cook 3 to 4 minutes – stirring constantly. Add red wine and mix well.

Add gravy and stock. Cook until reduced by 1/3.

CHEFS NOTE: You may want to use a bit more beef stock in proportion to ‘ gravy’—the gravy tends to be salty, and try to find low-sodium beef broth or stock.
