Soup for Long Winter Days

When the wind is blowing and the snow is flying, aside from a good book and nice fire, there’s nothing more comforting than the smell of soup cooking in a pot all day. The smells instantly warms you up, here are 3 favorite soups that will help warm you up on for those nasty winter days.

Chicken Tortilla Soup
Either let it simmer all day or in 40 minutes. This zesty take on chicken soup will have you warm in seconds. It’s got big flavor and it will fill you up. Use crushed tortillas as a nice layer on the bottom of the bowl to help add some thickness. Top it with cheese, avocado, sour cream or cilantro for a little extra kick.

Homemade Chicken Soup
On the comfort meter, nothing can top the legendary homemade chicken soup. With one spoonful you’ll be instantly warmed and remember your childhood.  Fresh chicken and vegetables and a little touch of salt and you’ve got the perfect winter comfort food.

Beef Stew
Along with chicken noodle soup, a hearty beef stew is another legend in the comfort soup range.  This is a great way to warm up your family on those cold winter days.  Browned stew beef, rich potatoes, carrots, thick sauce with the kick of Worcestershire sauce, among other spices. Let this one simmer all day and fill your house with incredible smells and the taste will be even better.

Super Loaded Baked Potato Soup
Thick, rich and tasty – loaded baked potato soup is a soup that will warm you up and fill you up. Thick potatoes blended with creamy broth will satisfy your craving for something hearty. To top it off add some cheese, bacon bits and parsley and you’ll have a nice comforting meal.

Broccoli Cheddar Soup in a Bread Bowl
Mix a thick creamy cheddar cheese broth with chunks of broccoli and to put it over the top put it all in a bread bowl and it’s full meal. This is not only a wonderful, warming soup it’s also fun. You can pick pieces of your bowl and dip it in the soup.

The next time you see a weather report and a winter storm is on the way, plan ahead and takes comfort in one of these rich hearty soups.
